How to get from Madrid airport to the city center

Madrid Barajas Airport provides their visitors many transportation options to get from the airport to the city center. Below you can choose the most comfortable for you by price and time of arrival.

Metro

You can get the Metro from Terminal 2 and Terminal 4. The line number is 8 and calls “Aeropuerto”.

After having taken it, you should go the station “Nuevos Ministerios”. The road takes approximately 15 minutes. From “Nuevos Ministerios” you can pick the line 10 or 6 which will drop you directly to the city center.

! Working hours of metro: 06:00 – 02:00. During the day it runs every 5 minutes and every 15 minutes after midnight.

! The ticket price ranges: from 4,5 to 5 euros, depending on how many stations you are going to use and what is your final destination.

! If you are going to use public transport a lot, then it will be cheaper for you to buy the “Tourist travel pass”. You can use it almost at all types of transport: metro A (in the city), metro as well as from/to airport, bus, Renfe train.

Prices for “Tourist travel pass”

Zona A: 1 day – €8.40; 2 days – €14.20, 3 days – €18.40, 5 days – €26.80, 7 days – €35.40

Airport Express Bus

The Airport Express bus goes from the Terminal 1, 2 and 4 and takes approximately 30-40 minutes to get to the city.

It makes three stops: O’Donnell – Plaza de Cibeles – Atocha train station (the final stop). From there you can easily pick the Metro, public bus or Renfe train.

The biggest advantage of Airport Express bus comparing with another transportation is the price and the timetable.

! Ticket costs 5 euros.

! It works 24 hours. It runs every 15-20 minutes at daytime and 35 minutes at night time.

Renfe Train

! Renfe train is the cheapest way to get to Madrid. The ticket costs 2,60 euros.

The working hours:

– from the airport to the city: first train leaves at 05:58, the last one at 22:27

– from the city center to the airport: from 06:02 till 23:33

It goes from Terminal 4 and it takes around 40 minutes to get to the city center (station Principe Pio)

Taxi

This type of transport, at first sight, seems expensive, but if you are a group of 4 people then it can costs you the same as to pick the Metro or Express bus.

Here are my top 3 of taxi companies which you can use in Madrid:

1. Uber. Well known around the world Uber by my opinion gives the cheapest prices. Approximate price for the trip from the airport to the city center is around 20-25 euros. And what I like the most in Uber is an easy-to-use application and that you can always pay for your trip by card. It is especially appreciated while traveling because like that you don’t have to look for a currency exchange or lose because of unfavorable exchange rate.

! Want to save 5 euros more for your trip? Use this code while ordering the taxi by Uber and it will be 5 euros cheaper for you!

2. Cabify. It’s another transportation company that provides its service in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. Cabify, as well as Uber, has cheap prices and user-friendly interface. It works on Android and iOS alike.

! While using Cabify don’t forget to use this code and make your trip cheaper for 5 euros.

3. Official Madrid airport taxi. Here you can check more details about the price, location and etc. The final price, of course, will depend on taximeter, but approximately will be around 30 euros.
