Public transport in Madrid: how you can travel within the city

Madrid has a well-organized, fast, clean and safe transportation system. Here you can find different modes of transport you can use for moving within the city.

Metro

It’s one of the fast and comfortable public transport in Madrid.

The prices:

· single trip: 1,5 – 2 €, depends on how many stations you use.

· 10-rides ticket: 12,20 €

The metro ticket you can use for both metro and bus.

Likewise, if you going to use the public transport many times during the day, then I would advise you to take the Tourist travel pass for 1,2,3,5 or 7 days. It’s divided into two zones: A and T. The main touristic places and sightseeing stay within Zone A. It includes the transport to and from the airport. But if you are willing to visit Guadalajara and Toledo, to use the Parla tramway or Metro Ligero light rail trains ML1, ML2 and ML3 then take the pass for Zona T.

Here are the tariffs for the Tourist travel pass:

Zona A: 1 day – €8.40; 2 days – €14.20, 3 days – €18.40, 5 days – €26.80, 7 days – €35.40

Zona T: 1 day – €17,00; 2 days – €28,40, 3 days – €35.40, 5 days – €50.80, 7 days – €70,80

Madrid’s Metro has also the user-friendly app where you can find out how to get to the needed station, how long it will take and find another useful information.

Bus

The largest bus operator in Madrid is EMT. You can recognize its buses by blue color. Buses run every day from 6:00 to 23:30 and every night from 23: 30 to 06:00.

· 10-journey card for Zone A, EMT buses and ML1 (light rail train): €12.20

· 10-journey card for EMT buses with line change option: €18.30

Where can you buy the ticket?

· single ticket and the Airport Express ticket you are able to buy onboard the bus.

· the Metrobús ticket you can get at some newsstands and tobacconists shops as well as at Metro station. 

· the 10-trip Bus+Bus EMT ticket you can also buy in tobacconist’s shops and newsstands of zone A.

Light Rail/Tram

One more way to move in the city. It works with the same schedule as metro: from 6:00 am to 1:30 am. The ticket you can buy directly at the stations and stops.

· Metro combines ticket: for a single trip – 3 €, for 10-trip ticket – 18,30 €

Electric bicycle
